A powerful late-season winter storm dropped up to 36 inches of fresh snow across Colorado's high country over the past 48 hours, extending the ski season and boosting reservoirs ahead of summer. Vail and Breckenridge reported the heaviest totals.
The storm also brought blizzard conditions to Interstate 70 through the Eisenhower Tunnel, causing closures and stranding motorists for several hours on Tuesday evening before plows cleared the route.
Water resource managers welcomed the late-season snowpack boost, noting that the Colorado River basin snowpack jumped from 89 percent to 104 percent of normal following the storm system.
