A late-season winter storm is delivering significant snowfall to the northern Rockies, with some mountain passes receiving over two feet of fresh snow. Travel advisories have been issued across Montana and northern Idaho.

While April snowstorms are not unusual in the region, the intensity of this system has surprised some forecasters. Ski resorts are extending their seasons to take advantage of the fresh powder.

Lower elevations are seeing a mix of rain and wet snow that is expected to transition to all rain by Thursday.
