The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for 15 counties in central Oklahoma through Tuesday evening as a line of supercell thunderstorms develops along a potent dryline. Conditions are favorable for strong to violent tornadoes.
Storm Prediction Center forecasters have placed the region under an enhanced risk with large hail up to 2 inches in diameter and wind gusts exceeding 70 mph also expected. Several storms have already shown rotation on radar.
Emergency management officials are urging residents to review their severe weather plans and identify safe shelter locations. Schools in the Oklahoma City metro have moved to early dismissal as a precaution.
