A powerful spring storm system spawned at least seven confirmed tornadoes across central Oklahoma on Tuesday afternoon, causing significant damage in several communities south of Oklahoma City. The strongest tornado, rated EF-3 with estimated winds of 165 mph, carved a 12-mile path through rural Cleveland County.
Emergency management officials report widespread structural damage to homes and agricultural buildings, though no fatalities have been confirmed thanks to effective early warning systems. Over 30,000 customers remain without power as utility crews work through the night to restore service.
The Storm Prediction Center had issued a high-risk outlook for the region 48 hours in advance, allowing communities to prepare shelters and evacuation plans well before the storms arrived.
