The Storm Prediction Center has issued an enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms across the Gulf Coast and southeastern states from Wednesday through Thursday. A deepening low-pressure system will interact with a warm and moisture-rich air mass, creating conditions favorable for supercell thunderstorms, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.
Cities including New Orleans, Mobile, Pensacola, and Tallahassee fall within the highest threat zone. Forecasters are particularly concerned about the overnight timing of the storms, which increases the danger for residents who may be asleep when warnings are issued.
