The Storm Prediction Center has issued an enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms across a wide swath of the central United States from Wednesday through Friday, with the potential for strong tornadoes.
Timing and Area
Wednesday: Oklahoma, Kansas, and northern Texas. Supercells expected to develop by mid-afternoon with large hail and tornado potential.
Thursday: The system moves east into Missouri, Arkansas, and western Tennessee. Overnight tornadoes are the primary concern.
Friday: Severe storms diminish but damaging wind gusts possible across the Ohio Valley.
Expected Hazards
- Tornadoes: Several strong (EF2+) tornadoes possible Wednesday-Thursday
- Hail: Up to baseball-sized (2.75") in supercell cores
- Wind: Gusts to 80 mph in squall lines
- Flash flooding: 2-4 inches of rain in short periods
